Budding, germinating, gemmating: these are processes which plants remember. This cycle of renewal is an example of resilience spurred on by adapting and assimilating new circumstances. Giuseppe, a member of the collective, stands out for the same endurance: he’s been paraplegic since 2019 after an accident in the mountains. His spine, just like a tree’s rings, remembers the traumatic event which reshaped his life. Rebirth comes each spring with new buds, a new ring which will continue recounting and overcoming its past thanks to its mutations.

”Medalghes. Ein Jahr allein in den bleichen Bergen” by Jürgen König recounts the time the German author spent here on his own in 1989. The world was changing rapidly, and König lived here with no electricity, services, radio, television or phone.
