Vial
Jose Antonio Barrientos de Oria
A huge syringe is plunged into the soil. “Vial” is a totem which uses an everyday as well as constantly shocking image to talk about a rather simple and literal concept: the health of humanity and our planet is fragile. This year, billions of people will receive a vaccine in an attempt to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and return to normalcy. A syringe is the chosen tool to bring us back to life – it scares us while at the same time helping us. Can this tool work when the disease hits nature, and the planet and the balance of the ecosystem are compromised through oil and raw materials extraction and the injection of fertilizers? Vaccines will be of little help. The message artist Jose Antonio Barrientos de Oria wants to send is that responsibility is not found in the chosen tool but in the way that we use it.
Exhibit place Pra de Pütia
The meadows at the foot of the Sas de Pütia „Prà de Pütia“ provide a magnificent view of the Dolomites. The vast meadows which flank the mountain are used to graze cattle and for haymaking. The “Roa dl Maier” is a place between Börz and Sas de Pütia, where visitors can admire some of the most beautiful and important geological formations of the Dolomites.
