“Stitched earth”
Ilyn Wong's site specific creation consists in stitching the soil using naturally dyed red woollen yarn. The artist has chosen geometric patterns inspired by alpine textile crafts that have a long tradition of seamstresses, tailors and needlewomen. Thanks to the gesture of embroidery, it's possible to combine the art of craftsmanship with the innovation of contemporary art, where instead of using needle and thread that are limited by the frame or the loom, the artist wanders freely on the ground. This way, he creates a contrast between the natural threads of grass and those of wool. The artist gives the viewer the opportunity to have a dialogue, though only imaginary, with the people and the story behind this tradition.

L’intervento site specific di Ilyn Wong consiste nel ricamare il terreno utilizzando dei filati di lana rossi, tinti in modo naturale. L’artista ha scelto motivi geometrici ispirati a quelli tradizionali dell’artigianato tessile alpino, ricco di storie di donne cucitrici, sarte e ricamatrici. Con il gesto del ricamo riesce a mettere in combinazione l’artigianato artistico con l'innovazione dell’arte contemporanea e, al posto di far agire ago e filo vincolati dalla cornice o dal telaio, l’artista spazia liberamente sul terreno. Crea così un contrasto tra i fili naturali dell’erba e il filo di lana. Pone lo spettatore in dialogo, anche se solo immaginario, con la storia che si cela dietro a questa tradizione.

Die Arbeit von Ilyn Wong ist site specific und besteht darin, den Boden zu sticken, indem man rote, natürlich gefärbte Wollfäden verwendet. Die Künstlerin hat geometrische Motive ausgewählt und hat sich dabei von den traditionellen Muster der Textilien aus den Alpen inspirieren lassen. Diese blicken auf eine reichhaltige Geschichte von Näherinnen, Schneiderinnen und Stickerinnen zurück. Mit Hilfe der Geste der Stickerei wird das Kunsthandwerk mit der Innovation der zeitgenössischen Kunst in Verbindung gebracht. Und anstatt die Nadel und den Faden auf den Rahmen oder den Webstuhl zu beschränken, bewegt sich der Künstler frei auf dem Boden. Auf diese Weise entsteht ein Kontrast zwischen den natürlichen Grashalmen und dem Wollfaden. Der Zuschauer tritt in einen, wenn auch nur imaginären Dialog mit der Geschichte, die sich hinter dieser Tradition verbirgt.
